Scanned PDF to Word: Why Does It Often Fail?
A scanned PDF is usually just a set of page images. If the file contains no copyable text, ordinary PDF to Word conversion struggles to reliably extract editable text.
- If text in the PDF can be selected, conversion is more likely to succeed.
- If every page is an image, OCR is needed before the text becomes editable.
- When testing an online PDF tool, start with a non-sensitive file.
FAQ
Why is the converted Word empty? The original PDF may be a scanned/image-based PDF with almost no extractable text.
Can OCR fully preserve the layout? OCR can recognize text, but complex tables and exact layouts are still hard to guarantee.
Can I upload sensitive scans? We do not recommend uploading passports, medical records, confidential contracts, or restricted data.
